Our West Salem Titans’ recent homecoming celebration was a great show out for our Titans, showing class on the game and the dance, and was inspired by this year’s theme, Lights of Rio! The school community came together to enjoy a week filled with fun activities, great spirit, and memorable moments leading up to a great football game on October 3rd.
Many of our titan students looked forward to this year’s homecoming, including ASB treasurer Henry Gelbirch, who said, “I’m really excited for all the lead-up to it. I think that we’re… we had a pretty fun assembly. I really like the Battle Ball things that people go in and like jump at each other. I think that’s usually like my favorite things to see in assemblies .” Many of the students showed up to this year’s homecoming dressed up as usual in fancy class attire and having an excellent time taking pictures and enjoying the fun atmosphere with friends and staff
The highlight of the week was the homecoming football game against Willamette High School, played on October 3rd. Our titans fought hard against Willamette with our student section dressed in a camouflage theme and showed dedication and passion on the field, leaving nothing less. Our Titans unfortunately fell against Williamite, 10-19, a real heartbreak for us, despite the fact that our students cheered on for our players and gave us a wonderful game to watch, and now, as they are moving forward, they hope to achieve new heights and achieve their goals for this last stretch of the season.
Coach Stanley gave us an insight into the potential that our football team has heading into this year’s playoffs, telling us that, “I think we proved in that Willamette game that if we can play our best football, we can play with anybody in the state. I think we showed close to our potential to play against teams that are ranked high, and again, think it’s a game; a couple of situations go differently, and we could have won the game. So I hope we have the confidence that if we play up to our ability, we can play and beat any team in the state”.
Nevertheless, the school’s ongoing spirit and passion led to our students enjoying this year’s game and dance, giving them memories that this year’s students will look back on for years to come
Great things to look forward to, Titans.
