This year’s Titan Idol has passed, and the Sexy Seventies, composed of Mr. Bacus, Mr. Grames
and Mr. Tiffin of the T-Wing, won with flying colors (and wigs). For those who didn’t or couldn’t
attend, and for those who have never experienced such a phenomenon as Titan Idol, it is the
school’s own homebrewed version of the very popular gameshow American Idol, scaled down
considerably to the talents on campus. We’ve had songs from every clique; the cheer team, the
thesps, the Unified kids, and obviously, the teachers. While I’m uncertain of the exact year that
this tradition was brought into the lives and mandatory schedules of West students and staff
alike, I can surely say that it’s not going away anytime soon.
The most notable of the performances, who ended up tied before the final vote, was a
spectacularly choreographed performance of “Golden” and “Your Idol” from the animated film
KPop Demon Hunters, and a finale of “Mystical Magical” by Benson Boone, against a three-man
wigged performance of “Stayin’ Alive” by The Bee-Gees, which ended up winning the
competition in the end. According to some reports, Bacus, Grames, and Tiffin often team up for
Titan Idol annually in order to support the school spirit, as they often participate in such school
events. Let’s hope next year brings more teams and more amazing choreography from our
students and faculty.
