On Tuesday, September 10th, the Titan Varsity Girls Soccer team took on Amity at home. After a competitive and physical match, but with the Titans taking home the win 3-1. The game was off to a good start with Titans scoring the first shot around 15 minutes into the game. There were some attempts at goals from Amity but, no points were scored thanks to West’s amazing goalie.
During the game the Refs whistle was very active, heard every time there was a foul. So, After the game, the Titan spectator got an exclusive interview with Varsity midfielder, Johi Diaz. When asked about any hardships during the game, she responded, “The other team because they fouled for no reason.” I then asked if she had been fouled on. Diaz said, “I got fouled a few times, yes. At one point I was defending a girl and she completely pushes me down and another girl took my feet out completely.”
The game featured dozens of amazing shots, passes, and tricks as both team’s skills were on full display. Here is what Diaz had to say about it, “I think we did really good together as a team and just came out with a win even though it was a difficult team to play.” I asked her what key points she thought led to the win and she responded with, “I think connecting and being positive with each other and nobody was yelling at each other so I think that really boosted our energy and kept us going the whole game.” In terms of herself, Diaz said she “did very well bringing the ball up the field or connecting with my team even if it was like a give and go in the game or just passing it up and giving good passes to my wingers to run it up the field.”
This game set a good tone for the rest of the year which will hopefully be carried out throughout the rest of the season.
