As the school year ends, students are starting to prepare for the upcoming finals. This time of year can be pretty busy and stressful. Here’s what some students plan to do to study, stay organized, and take care of themselves.
Many students find it helpful to stay organized during finals but this is easier said than done for some people. A structured plan helps students retain all the necessary information without getting overwhelmed. “Making a goal to study no less than an hour and no more than three is usually what I do to leave room for food, cleanliness, and hobbies.” Says Sophomore Henry Anderson.
“I like to set an hour timer for each subject just so I don’t get too focused on one while I lack on another. It also just helps me balance out my workload.” Says Junior Gabriella Murray.
Practice tests, reviewing past texts, and flashcards are all great ways to memorize information and figure out areas you could use help in then taking time to talk to teachers or other classmates. “I mainly use flashcards for bigger tests. I also come up with little sayings in my head to remember things better, like a word that rhymes with it,” says Murray.
As we get closer to finals, ensuring that students are taking care of themselves is crucial to helping them stay focused and energized. It’s essential that students take care of their well-being by taking breaks, maintaining hobbies, and other things that keep them calm. “During finals week I try to prioritize connections with peers over studying. Naturally, people will be stressed about finals, so always being down to talk to them is also a good way for me to lightly review,” says Anderson.
Murray says, “I think self-care is always important but especially important during finals because they are so unbelievably stressful.” She goes on to say, “I like to take naps or do an hour yoga video to try and calm down before studying, or even after.”
Overall, preparing for finals takes organization, time management, studying, and taking care of yourself. These things help set students up for success during this time.
